‘Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together’ on the PSP is by far the most enjoyable fantasy RPG so far this year in my opinion

Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together has been the most enjoyable game this year so far in my opinion. This game is a mix of Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle (Nintendo 64 if you remember it) made by Square Enix. It may be sad that I name a PSP game as the most enjoyable but honestly that how the RPG genre has been doing in recent years. Two Worlds II was fun but very short, WoW is just boring after a few months (no challenge whatsoever = ultimate lameness) and most other recent RPGs also lack enough content to keep RPG goers interested longer than a few months at best. My little brother and I talk every now and then about our favorite games and while talking with him I realized that there are many RPG type games attempting to join the ‘action’ genre. But that’s another topic for later, perhaps.

I think this will keep me busy until White Knight Chronicles 2 comes out at the end of May. Hopefully that one is longer than its predecessor as well.

Letter from the Producer, VI (03/16/2011)

‘ As you may have heard, northeastern Japan was recently struck by a devastating earthquake and tsunami. I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to all affected by this great tragedy.

To do our part in the electricity conservation effort, we have temporarily taken our game servers offline. I apologize deeply for the inconvenience this causes all of you, and ask for your patience and understanding.

I would also like to thank all of the players who have offered words of support and sympathy on the FFXIV forums. I made a brief post myself, but would like to take this opportunity to do so formally and report on the current state of the development team.

Tokyo, where our development and operation teams are based, has suffered minimal damage from the earthquake and its after effects. We have confirmed the safety of all our team members, but there are those with family in the affected regions. Due to this, the concerns of the nuclear plants, and the ongoing aftershocks, we are not at our best.

The planned blackouts in the Kanto region have disrupted public transportation, preventing many from even making it to work. In addition, our French and German localization staff have left Tokyo at the urging of their respective embassies. For these reasons, and to allow our staff to focus on their safety and that of their families, I have decided to make adjustments to the development schedule.

We were working to release patches 1.16a and 1.17 by the end of March, but now anticipate a delay of one to two weeks. During this time, we will not only be making minor improvements, but also directing our efforts on laying the groundwork for future content.

I had intended to announce this in a future letter, but we will release information regarding the Grand Companies of Eorzea (what were referred to as “public companies” in previous posts) just before patch 1.17 goes live. We are currently readying a page dedicated to this exciting new feature, and hope to have it up on the Lodestone shortly.

Despite current conditions, we are doing all we can to release the patches and get you adventuring again as quickly as possible.

Talk to you again soon!

FINAL FANTASY XIV Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida ‘

I’m glad everyone is okay and I hope their families as well as everyone affected will get through this incident. yamatodamashii~! The tough, proud and resilient Japanese spirit will overcome!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2–Light Side Ending

Got tired of DA2 for the moment and wanted something more upbeat so I made a fraps video for my SWTFU2 Light side ending.

I chose to let you live!

Dragon Age 2- The Qunari Assault of Kirkwall

I just uploaded a video with just cutscenes (I edited out the fighting to save time).

So far my favorite cutscene is when Orsino shows off his awesome mageness.

FFXIV Service Suspended Due to Tohoku Earthquake (oh noes!)

This just in from the ZAM forums:

As many forum-goers are aware, the Tohoku region of Japan was struck by a magnitude 9 earthquake casuing massive damage.  Thankfully, Sage Sundi tweeted to let everyone know that the development team is safe and unharmed.  However, news from the official FFXIV Twitter account now indicates that the servers will be shut down temporarily.  From the feed:

As a result of the earthquake, we temporarily may have to shut down the servers hosting FFXI and FFXIV. (1/3)

We will give you as much advance notice as possible under the rapidly changing circumstances. (2/3)

If the servers are shut down, we will provide updates in the Information section of our official websites http://bit.ly/dH3G4u (3/3)

Due to the earthquakes that have occurred in Japan, we have decided to temporarily suspend the game servers.(1/5)

To accommodate the suspension of services, players will not be billed for the FFXI service throughout the April billing cycle.(2/5)

Please see the official announcement for more details. http://bit.ly/etk5lr (3/5)

We will continue to operate the official websites and the forums to provide updates on the current situation.(4/5)

Additional information regarding this matter will also be posted on the Information section as it becomes available.(5/5)

According to the official announcement referenced in the feed (which you can view here) Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is asking customers to reduce electricity usage so as to avoid power shortages.  So, by the great sacrifice of adventurers all across Eorzea, TEPCO may be able to restore electricity to the real world 🙂

…and I’m spent.

Got through the Deep Roads and now have a plethora of new quests to do

After running through many areas I eventually found Dougal the dwarf, and he fronted the money for me to get into the expedition.  I went through the Deep Roads, which took about 20-30 mins and got back to the city.  All of the companions needed me to talk with them in their respective areas as well as Sebastian (the Exiled Prince) and he joined the group now.  The dog still doesn’t really do anything besides bark at people in cutscenes but there seems to be plenty of things to do now.  Carver (Hawke’s brother) is now a templar and unable to join the party at the moment but he still appears apart of our group.  I like the new family estate, it seems fitting for the Hawkes after years of doing things for the city and getting their family back in good standing.

I hope that there is still a lot of content to go through and not just a bunch of quests in the same map areas already covered.  If so, I won’t be disappointed since it’s what I expect.  We’ll see.

Finished up all the quests on Dragon Age 2 except for the Deep Roads

I’ve been through all the quests with only the Deep Roads left but after downloading and installing then buying items from “The Black Emporium” I went down from 40k to 29k and I don’t have the 50k to ‘invest’ into the expedition into the Deep Roads with the Dwarves. So I’m finding odds and ends to do to get the rest of the sovereigns (money) needed to get this done. I also have to admit that ‘The Exiled Prince’ was a letdown to me. I thought he was a permanent addition but I guess not. I went through 3 quick quests with him and he was back in the chantry. I’m also getting frustrated that I haven’t been able to proposition the Elven mage since her nature magic and my focus on the Elements would birth one awesome mageling lol.

I must admit that I was expecting a lot more content than what I’ve seen so far but I’m sure Bioware will have havens of DLC to ‘purchase’ in the not to distant future to make up for it to rip me off even more!  Well, I’ll get back to the grinding now (if I can find any) and hope I can reach the 50k mark to further my DA2 experience!

Release date check failed for Dragon Age 2

After anticipating playing Dragon Age 2 from midnight through the next few days to come, I installed the game and there was a Sony DACT (or something like that) program that ran after starting up the launcher to play the game. It came back as failed at 12:35 am my time…lol. In the ‘Release date check failed’ box it stated this:

So this will stop my gaming time for an hour and a half I guess….perhaps I’ll drink some coffee and get on FFXIV in the meantime.

Fraps video- Dragon Age 2 Demo 1st half of demo

Just download and finished the Dragon Age 2 Demo….

Well, I took the liberty of downloading the Dragon Age 2 demo from the bioware website for my Windows 7 PC and had trouble launching the game. I got an error related to DirectX and had to go to microsoft’s website to re-download it (even though everything seemed up to date, I read this on one of the bioware social forums that stated this was a fix and it did indeed fix the problem). The error was something like d3dx11_42_x64 but the re-download fixed that.

Also my PC froze on the ‘Start Menu’ screen. At first I thought it had something to do with DA2 servers because at the bottom of the screen it was stating it was connecting to the servers and the DA2 demo was not responding. However, I went to the bioware Dragon Age forums and found that I needed to remove any flash drives and other removable storage because it is a known issue with the demo.

After that, I started playing with no problems. The graphics is nice, the combat is fun and storyline is pretty decent. I think I’ll be at Gamestop tomorrow night to pick it up (I reserved it) during the ‘midnight release.’ This game looks worth it from judging the demo I played.
